What to Bring to the Counter: Florida's 21+ Rules Explained

One of the most common questions we hear is simple. What do I need to bring to buy from a smoke shop in Florida? The short answer is a valid photo ID showing you are 21 or older.

This post explains the Florida vape age 21 rule, the federal law behind it, and how ID checks work at Gulf Coast Smoke Shop. It also covers ID rules for pickup, local delivery and our VIP Club.

Florida's Minimum Age Is 21

In Florida, you must be 21 or older to buy tobacco and nicotine products. That includes vapes and other nicotine products. Florida raised its minimum age from 18 to 21, and the change took effect on October 1, 2021.

Florida law also requires sellers to verify age. That is why you will be asked for ID at the counter.

The Federal Tobacco 21 Law

The minimum age is also 21 at the federal level. In December 2019, a federal law raised the minimum age to buy tobacco products from 18 to 21 nationwide. According to the FDA, it is illegal for a retailer to sell any tobacco product to anyone under 21. That includes cigarettes, cigars and e-cigarettes.

So whether you are a Florida resident or visiting from another state, the age is the same. You must be 21 or older.

Our Store Policy: 21+ for Everything

At Gulf Coast Smoke Shop, every product we sell is for adults 21 and older. That applies across the store. It covers nicotine vapes, cigars, hemp flower and edibles, kratom and smoking accessories. One simple rule keeps things clear for customers and staff.

What to Bring: Valid ID Types

Bring a valid, unexpired, government-issued photo ID that shows your date of birth. Common examples include the following.

• A state driver's license from any U.S. state
• A state-issued identification card
• A U.S. passport or passport card
• A military ID
• A foreign passport

A few things we cannot accept. We cannot accept an expired ID. We cannot accept a photo of an ID on your phone. We cannot accept an ID that is damaged so badly that we cannot read it or match the photo.

Why We Card Every Visit

We check ID on every visit, for every customer. That includes regulars we see every week. It also includes customers who are clearly well over 21.

We do this for a few reasons.

• Consistency: When everyone is carded, nobody is singled out. The process is the same for all.
• Accuracy: Guessing ages is unreliable. An ID check removes the guesswork.
• Responsibility: We take age rules seriously. Carding every visit is part of being a responsible local business.

ID Rules for Pickup Orders

Free in-store pickup is a quick way to shop. Order online, then come to the counter to collect your order.

• Bring a valid photo ID.
• The name on your ID should match the name on the order.
• The person picking up must be 21 or older.

If the ID does not match or is not valid, we cannot release the order. See our store pickup and returns page for full details.

ID Rules for Local Delivery

We offer local delivery in the Bonita Springs area. We do not ship. The ID rules for delivery are firm.

• An adult 21 or older must accept the delivery.
• That person must show a valid ID that matches the order.
• We cannot leave orders at the door, with a neighbor or with anyone under 21.

If no one with a matching ID is available, the driver will not complete the delivery. Please plan to be home when your order arrives.

VIP Club Is 21+

Our VIP Club costs $19.99 a month and gives members 10% off every order in store and online. There is a two month minimum, and then you can cancel anytime. Like everything else we offer, VIP membership is for adults 21 and older. Members still show ID at every visit and every pickup.

A Note for Seasonal Visitors

Many of our customers are in town for the season. Your out-of-state driver's license or ID works the same way, as long as it is valid and unexpired. International visitors can bring a valid passport.
